What do the 2026 Mazda CX-5 and Honda CR-V cost to buy?

As listed on 10/09/2026, the 2026 CX-5 2.5 S carries a $29,990 MSRP and the 2026 CR-V LX a $30,920 MSRP. Both exclude destination, taxes, title and registration, and neither is a dealer selling price. The ranges overlap, but the trims are not drivetrain-matched. Mazda lists standard i-Activ all-wheel drive on every 2026 CX-5 trim. Honda offers the CR-V in 2WD or AWD on most trims, and its page does not say which drivetrain the LX starting MSRP covers. Mazda's 2026 CX-5 uses one powertrain, a 2.5L Skyactiv-G four-cylinder with 187 hp and a 6-speed automatic. The CR-V LX, EX and EX-L use a 1.5L turbo four with 190 hp. Which gets better fuel economy, the CX-5 or the CR-V?

The CR-V does. Every 2026 CR-V EPA rating Honda lists tops the 26 mpg combined Mazda lists for the 2026 CX-5 2.5 S. This is the CR-V's clearest cost advantage, and the CR-V Hybrid widens the gap. On fuel grade, Mazda's spec sheet lists "Regular unleaded 87 octane or above," and Honda lists regular unleaded for every 2026 CR-V trim.

How much the gap matters depends on how far you drive. A buyer who logs long highway miles each week feels it more than one who drives a few miles across Brickell. How do CX-5 and CR-V maintenance schedules compare?

Both use an in-car reminder. Mazda also prints maximum intervals for the 2026 CX-5, while Honda's Maintenance Minder sets timing from oil life. Mazda's schedule says the vehicle status monitor alerts you "by turning on the wrench indicator light or displaying a message." It adds that the reminder "will come on before reaching the maximum interval." Under normal conditions, the 2026 schedule sets these maximums:

• Engine oil and filter: 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first.
• Tire rotation: every 10,000 miles.
• Cabin air filter: every 30,000 miles or 2 years.
• Spark plugs: every 70,000 miles.
• Engine coolant: first at 120,000 miles or 10 years, then every 60,000 miles or 5 years.

Honda takes a different approach. Honda's owner's manual section on the Maintenance Minder says it calculates remaining engine oil life "based on the engine operating conditions" and shows it as a percentage. It then calls for main items A or B, plus numbered sub-items such as tire rotation. Honda does not print one fixed CR-V oil mileage, so the visit count depends on how the car is driven.

Does either SUV come with included maintenance?

Honda lists Honda Service Pass for the CR-V. Mazda's warranty pages and 2026 booklet do not list an included maintenance program for the CX-5. Honda's announcement says Honda Service Pass covers select Maintenance Minder maintenance. Coverage runs "for the first two years or 24,000 miles of vehicle life, whichever comes first." Honda lists standard oil and filter changes, tire rotation and multi-point inspections. Service must be done at a participating Honda dealership, in the United States. The program covers eligible models, so confirm the CR-V you are pricing qualifies.

On the Mazda side, budget for the early visits yourself, or ask our team about any current program in writing. One more small ongoing item: Mazda says Mazda Connected Services comes with a one-year trial, and "annual subscription fees apply thereafter."

How do the Mazda and Honda warranties compare?

They match on length: 3 years or 36,000 miles new-vehicle, 5 years or 60,000 miles powertrain, and 5 years of corrosion coverage. The wording differs in small ways, and each brand's booklet governs. Honda's new-vehicle coverage names the 12-volt battery. On tires, Mazda says "The originally equipped tires are warranted by the tire manufacturer." Honda says "The original tires may be warranted by their manufacturer."

Mazda's emissions warranty section adds a useful ownership note. It says emission-related maintenance "may be performed by any automotive repair establishment or individual using Certified Parts." How do tire sizes affect CX-5 and CR-V ownership costs?

Tires are a wear item neither vehicle warranty covers, and size drives replacement cost. The CX-5 uses 225-width tires; the CR-V uses 235-width tires. Mazda's 2026 spec sheet lists two CX-5 sizes. Honda lists four CR-V fitments by trim, including an all-terrain tire on the TrailSport Hybrid.

• 2026 CX-5: P225/65 R17 on the 17-inch wheels of the 2.5 S. P225/55 R19 on 19-inch wheels, such as the 2.5 S Preferred and 2.5 S Premium.
• 2026 CR-V LX: 235/65R17.

How does Miami driving affect CX-5 and CR-V running costs?

Heat, humidity, heavy rain and stop-and-go traffic can move you toward Mazda's Severe maintenance schedule, which halves the oil interval. Miami brings year-round heat and UV, coastal salt air and heavy summer rain. Daily traffic through Brickell, Little Havana and Downtown Miami can mean short trips and idling. Separately, Mazda's 2026 CX-5 schedule lists extremely high temperatures, heavy rain, short trips and extremely humid climates among its Severe conditions.

Mazda does not name any city, and the right schedule depends on how you drive. We would give a Miami CR-V owner the same advice: follow the Maintenance Minder, which reads operating conditions. Either way, budget for more frequent visits if your week is mostly short, hot, stop-and-go trips.

Which buyer fits the CX-5, and which fits the CR-V?

The CX-5 fits buyers who want a lower starting MSRP with standard AWD. The CR-V Hybrid fits high-mileage drivers who value the highest EPA rating here.
